  • Logging into web host’s Cpanel and brief overview
  • WordPress one-click install
  • WordPress overview
    • Settings
      • General
        • Site title: short and branded
        • Tagline: main 3 or 4 keyword separated by commas (can change later, but this is a good start for seo)
        • 65-70 characters (search engine results show only that many)
        • Also, it appears with every page/post title (can change later with SEO tool)
        • Tells search engines and humans instantly what your website is about
        • Don’t be THAT WEBSITE (like 9 million pages!!! “just another wordpress site”
      • Reading (done in divi sidebar)
      • Permalinks – postname (you want nice search-engine-friendly URLs instead of ugly php code**** NOTE: if you watch “WordPress settings to change immediately for better SEO” and decide to change your permalinks and already have comments on blog posts, you may lose those comments when it restructures *** 
    • Dashboard / WordPress features menu overview (covered in-depth in future videos)
    • Deleting useless preinstalled plugins
  • Logging in to Elegant Themes (purchase required to activate your theme) and installing Divi theme – register here: http://tiny.cc/Elegant-themes **

 

Actions:

  • Install WordPress (takes about 20 seconds!)
    • If you have websites already on other domains in your hosting, be sure to back them up first, just in case)
  • Record your login details for your new WordPress account
  • Check your email for any notifications or activations required from WordPress (or maybe a third party, such as Mojo Marketplace) and make sure it is not going to your spam/junk folder or “promotions” tab if you use Gmail
  • Change URLs for better SEO in Settings – Site title, tagline, permalinks
  • Delete Hello Dolly and Mojo Marketplace preinstalled plugins
  • Purchase Elegant Themes** package to sign into your account and download Divi theme (make sure it is a .zip file and not automatically “unzipped”)
  • View the Readme and Divi Live Theme examples to explore all of the modules and features and get some inspiration for your own website
